Delhi and several other states are facing extreme heat conditions today, with temperatures soaring above 40°C. The northern hills, in contrast, are experiencing intermittent rainfall and even possible snowfall.

In Delhi, the maximum temperature is expected to hit 40°C, accompanied by light to moderate rain and thunderstorms. Hyderabad will see a slightly higher maximum of 41°C, characterized by dry heat and occasional gusty winds. Kolkata anticipates moderate rain chances with a maximum temperature of 34°C. Meanwhile, Chennai’s forecast includes isolated coastal showers at a maximum temperature of 35°C.

That context matters because regions like Rajasthan are grappling with extreme heat pockets exceeding 42°C. Uttar Pradesh will also experience persistent warm conditions nearing 40°C. In stark contrast, Jammu and Kashmir is expecting light rain along with possible snowfall in higher altitudes, where temperatures will range from a chilly 7°C to a mild 15°C.

Key temperatures across major cities:

Delhi: Maximum of 40°C

Hyderabad: Maximum of 41°C

Kolkata: Maximum of 34°C

Chennai: Maximum of 35°C

Rajasthan: Above 42°C

Uttar Pradesh: Up to 40°C

Ahmedabad: Hottest at 43°C

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the Delhi-NCR region due to high heat stress levels around 40–42°C. This surge in temperature is causing increased urban heat stress across cities, impacting travel, health, and electricity demand significantly.

Observers note that the average first-innings total at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium is around 202 runs, which might be affected by the current weather conditions. As summer progresses, the combination of high humidity levels and soaring temperatures could lead to more severe weather alerts.
