கோயம்புத்தூர் — IN news

Heavy rain is forecasted in Coimbatore and surrounding districts over the next week, offering unexpected relief from the sweltering summer heat in Tamil Nadu. The Chennai Meteorological Centre has issued a warning, anticipating thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km/h.

This unusual weather pattern is influenced by a trough extending from western Rajasthan to the Kumari Sea. As temperatures in Tamil Nadu are expected to soar between 39-40°C, the predicted rainfall could provide much-needed respite.

Rainfall expectations:

  • On May 2, light to moderate rain is expected across several areas.
  • By May 3, heavy rain will likely hit the hill areas of Coimbatore and Tiruppur.
  • On May 5, heavy rain is anticipated again in Coimbatore and its neighboring districts.
  • The following day, May 6, will see more heavy rain in the hill regions.
  • Finally, on May 8, heavy rainfall is again expected in Coimbatore and Tiruppur.

Historically, heavy rain during these summer months is quite rare for Tamil Nadu. Residents typically brace for high temperatures in April and May. This sudden shift could alleviate heat-related stress among locals.

The meteorological department’s warnings cover eight districts, including Madurai and Erode. Officials have not yet confirmed if this weather pattern will persist beyond next week.
