What Happened

The West Bengal government has announced the launch of the Banglar Yuva Sathi scheme, which will provide financial assistance to unemployed youth. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee confirmed that the scheme will commence on April 1, 2026, advancing the original launch date from August 15. The announcement was made during a meeting held on February 10, 2023, at the state secretariat, Nabanna.

Why It Matters

The Banglar Yuva Sathi scheme aims to support educated but unemployed individuals aged 21 to 40 years by offering a monthly stipend of ₹1,500 for a maximum of five years. This initiative is part of the broader Swanirbhar Bangla scheme, which includes various welfare programs. Registration for the scheme will take place from February 15 to 26 across all 294 assembly constituencies, allowing eligible candidates to apply through designated camps.

What’s Next

Eligible applicants must be permanent residents of West Bengal, possess a valid Madhyamik certificate, and be unemployed at the time of application. The financial assistance will be directly deposited into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts. The state government has allocated ₹5,000 crore for the implementation of this scheme in the upcoming financial year, reflecting its commitment to addressing unemployment in the region.
